POLICE PRESENCE IN ASHBROOK
As some of you may know, this Spring we had been having a lot of problems with older teen and young adult outsiders coming into the recreation areas and playground and taking things over, making it very difficult for our younger kids to be able to use the equipment, skating area, or basketball or tennis courts. Plus we had many complaints from parents about the cursing, drinking, and other activities going on, and some bullying of younger kids by older teens. At the Safety and Security Committee's request the Board approved hiring some off-duty police help to clean up these activities. Our Rules and Regs state, as on signs at all entrances to the recreation areas, that the facilities are for "residents and accompanied houseguests only- all others are trespassing". This does not mean that one kid from here can have 8 or 10 outsider older teens or young adults from all over Richmond come in here with him or her, as these are obviously not all houseguests! The police officers have done exactly what the Board directed, and have pared things down to where it should be, and in our opinion made it a much safer environment. There is a rumor going around that some Board members have told our kids that they can't skate anymore, which simply is not true. Our Board members all encourage any of our kids to use the facilities, as long as they follow the Rules and Regulations.
BLOCK CAPTAIN LIST
Below you will find the name of your street and your street's block captain. Please contact your block captain to be added to your street's neighborhood watch email alert. If a crime is committed on your street, you should first alert the police then your block captain. Your block captain can then send an email to his/her distribution list/street. Soon, we will be able to connect all streets.
If your street does not have a captain and you would like to volunteer, please contact us at ashbrooknw@yahoo.com
Remember, an informed neighborhood is a safe neighborhood!
